The Backstory
The beauty industry has been a passion of mine since I was a young girl. I used to give my dolls makeovers and my poor sister had to endure terrible haircuts, bad makeovers, wax burns, among other things. But thanks to that "practice" I got better at my craft. I grew up during a time when being a makeup artist or hair dresser was seen as just a hobby. Lashes and brows weren't even a thing back then, but I didn't care. I used to believe I would own a spa someday, even though I had no idea what "spa" meant.
During my senior year in high school I began "shaping" and tweezing my friend's brows. This was in the early 2000's so thin brows were still a thing. The more hairs I tweezed, the better. Even though being in the beauty industry was something my heart desired I didn't follow that path immediately. I was haunted by the fact it wasn't a "real job".
At that time, I decided to attend college and pursue my 2nd choice… becoming a CPA so nobody would steal my money from the spa I was going to open. That plan didn't pan out because my heart wasn't in it. The years passed by and I was working jobs I disliked. The desire of opening a spa was beginning to fade.
Today
I married my husband in May 2017 and he has been such a supportive man in my life. Thanks to him, I quit a job I enjoyed, but didn't love to pursue my lifelong dream. I am now starting to see this dream of mine become a reality.
While I was attending Paul Mitchell I found out I was pregnant with my daughter, Vyvyana. She has been a part of this journey since I started school and I wanted to leave something for her to fall back on. I didn't jump right into the working world after getting my license. I waited until my daughter was about 6 months old when I took my first "booth rental" in a salon. That experience was short due to Covid, but it allowed me to focus and determine what I wanted from this industry. During the time we weren't allowed to work, I was continuing education, watching hundreds of youtube videos, and practicing some more with friends and family members. I started taking clients as soon as we were allowed to reopen. I rented a small suite, but I knew that was just my stepping stone to get to where I wanted. One day I decided to drive around and find a place to call "home" long term and I found my perfect space.
Opening my very first store front has been a roller coaster of emotions. The ride hasn't been smooth at all, but it has allowed me to define more clearly what I want to create in this space. That dream I once had about opening a spa has now evolved into something different and I can't wait to share that when the time comes.
I graduated from Paul Mitchell in March 2019 and became a licensed Esthetician shortly after. Since graduating, I have continued education and I now have 18 certifications under my belt for lash extensions, brow shaping and design, and lash lifting.
I want to thank all my clients, friends and family members who have supported me in this journey. I really wouldn't be where I am today if it wasn't for all of you.
